I’ll miss our weekly zoom calls with Stan, my sister Darlene, Stan Jr. and Tannis. Stan was always very cheerful and positive about life and had a great love of the Lord. I was happy to hear that he passed quietly without suffering. Jim and I send our condolences to my sister Darlene, Stan Jr, Tannis, Stephen and Michael and his four grandsons. Judy and Jim McInnes

My beloved Uncle Stan, I am so sorry to hear that Stan has passed away. We always looked forward to having Uncle Stan visit us in Calgary. All my family, friends, neighbours and staff at my mom's nursing home were always asking when Uncle Stan would be coming to visit. A few of the staff called him "Uncle Sam', I never corrected them 🙂 Uncle Stan had a unique way of making everyone feel extra special and he was loved by all. I would cringe in embarrassement when Uncle Stan would call out across the airport "Hello beautiful Marion". There was no doubt that Uncle Stan always made a dramatic entrance! Uncle Stan was so proud when I surprised him at the airport and he was made an honorary Calgarian and presented with a white cowboy hat. Uncle Stan and I had so many fun times, from deciding what we would have for dinner to sneaking an afternoon cocktail . The world was a much better place when Stan was in it. I will miss my favourite uncle; but I know that he is in heaven now, telling stories, laughing at jokes and having a great time. Uncle Stan lived his best life and I am thankful I was able to get to know him. God bless you Uncle Stan xooxox Marion Smolinski

I was really sad to hear of Stan's passing. He was always a very positive guy, and loved having visitors at River Park Gardens. He also loved good food, telling stories and hearing outside news. He was a faithful parishioner at Our Lady of Victory parish on Osborne St. Stan had many adventures during his life - one he would recall was sandbagging on Lyndale Drive during the infamous 1950 Flood. He grew up at 300 Stradbrooke Street with him being the eldest of six children. He fondly recalled stories about his siblings - Mary, Eleanor, Ed, John and Patricia. His Dad, my uncle Joe, worked at Moore's Fuel yard which was behind their home. The family home was always fun to visit - all us kids would sit on the stairs and listen to the adults talk and it was always a special time. His Mom my Auntie Nellie would always have baked goodies and treats for us all. Good times. Rest In Peace dear cousin.

Dear sweet hilarious Uncle Stan! I was very saddened to hear of your passing. I have so many awesome memories of Stan and his good nature and great sense of humour. He was a favourite uncle among us nieces and nephews growing up in Calgary! Our mom Eleanor thought the absolute world of her big brother, and dad loved him too. Stan made friends wherever he went, including the several times he flew out from Winnipeg to stay with my sister Marion and her family in recent years. Neighbours would gather in her backyard for a barbeque, a beverage, and a chance to visit with "Uncle Stan" as he was referred to by all. His stories were legendary and brought laughter to so many! His big spirit, happiness, and all the laughs we shared will be fondly remembered. He will always hold a special place in our hearts. Godspeed, Uncle Stan! We love you. ❤️
