PHILIP MACDONALD
FEBRUARY 6, 1960 – MARCH 28, 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Philip MacDonald on March 28, 2026 at the age of 66. He passed away peacefully in his home in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Although his passing was unexpected, he had been unwell for some time. Having lived in the same residence for over 36 years, he left this world in the place he was most comfortable. He is survived by his three children: Christopher, Michael and Stephen, as well as six siblings: Mary, Kevin (Jennifer), Kelly (Janice), Patrick (Wendy), Michael and Maureen (Lori), as well as brothers-in-law Bill (Sheila) and Dan (Kristine), mother-in-law Sheilagh and many nieces and nephews. Sadly, he is predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Carol and his brother Timothy.

He was born the 5th of 8 children to Kathleen and Reginald MacDonald on February 6th, 1960 in the small town of Esterhazy, Saskatchewan. They eventually moved to their permanent residence in Winnipeg and that is where Philip lived most of the rest of his life, save for a couple years in Regina with his future wife, Carol. When they moved back to Winnipeg, they began to start a family together, welcoming three children between the years of 1981 and 1991. They were both very loving parents and tried to provide their children with all the opportunities as children that they themselves did not have growing up financially.

Philip was a very involved father, teaching his children many things, one among those being the sport of hockey. He coached hockey in St. James for over 20 years, many times coaching his children. He was even involved in the introduction of the initiation program for youth hockey within St. James, and received commendations for volunteering so much of his time towards coaching hockey.

Outside of family life, Philip was an extremely dedicated worker. He was employed by Bristol Aerospace (later re-named Magellan) for 42 years, working in a variety of roles and cultivating many skills that would make him a great asset to his place of employment. This led to him being asked to travel to sister companies throughout the world to consult or meet with customers that requested his presence. He was greatly admired and respected by his peers and will be sorely missed by them as well. He finally decided to retire in 2023; unfortunately, he was unable to enjoy that retirement long enough.

Philip will be cremated and his remains will be interred next to his wife in Assumption Hall at Assumption Roman Catholic Cemetery. A service will be held at a later date at Assumption Hall. We would like to thank all friends and family who have sent their condolences, well wishes and provided comfort during this difficult time and would like to conclude with this poem:

Epitaph On A Friend
By Robert Burns
An honest man here lies at rest,
The friend of man, the friend of truth,
The friend of age, and guide of youth;
Few hearts like his, with virtue warmed,
Few heads with knowledge so informed;
If there’s another world, he lives in bliss;
If there is none, he made the best of this.
