GREGORY JOHN FRANKLIN

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved Greg. Left to mourn Greg are his parents Stephen and Roberta Franklin; son Taylor Franklin (Alanna); sisters Teresa Smith (Ken) and Lisa Richaud (Mike); brother Ken Franklin (Cindy); special aunts Dolores Hawkins and Isabel Kelly; nephews Darrell Helmle, Ryder and Chase Richaud; as well as several cousins and many special friends.

After high school Greg enrolled in the culinary arts program at RRC where he graduated with honours specializing in baking. He soon landed a job at Kub Bakery where he worked for many years building friendships and mastering his craft before realizing his dream of having his own bakery. He purchased Oma’s Bakeshop on Henderson highway, where he made a wide variety of delicious pastries and breads. Greg’s passion for food didn’t stop in the workplace. He explored countless recipes at home, treating those close to him to unique and flavorful dishes.

Greg was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and tending to his garden. He had many memorable trips to the lodge, out in the fields or on the lake with his son Taylor and his close friends Marty Manson, Mike Plumton, Daryl McDonald, Howard Besser and brother-in-law Mike Richaud.

Greg’s outgoing nature and love of life touched the hearts of many people. Always making those around him smile and laugh with his goofy jokes and silly nicknames. But most of all was his dedication to those he cared about.

A celebration of Greg’s life will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 3:00pm at Glenwood Community Centre, 27 Overton St., Winnipeg, Manitoba.
