VICTOR LOEWEN
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Victor Loewen on February 28, 2016, aged 80 years.
He was predeceased by his wife Lily in 2013. He will be lovingly remembered by his four sons: Peter (Cheryl), Paul (Leanna), Mark (Marissa) and Rob (Jana); grandchildren: Erik, Lauren, Victoria, Arianna, Luke, Graham, Noam, Efram, Charlotte and Oscar; sister Margita Sudermann (Henry); brother-in-law Werner Pauls (Linda); and many relatives and life-long friends.
He was born in Pavlograd, Ukraine on December 30, 1935. His early life was greatly affected by war, losing most of his relatives, including his father. In 1948, his family immigrated to Winnipeg. He married Lily Pauls in 1960 and together they lovingly raised four sons. They lived in Winnipeg, Uganda, and for 38 years on River Road in St. Andrews. They moved to Fred Douglas Place in 2010. Vic was a teacher. He had a natural curiosity, was a critical thinker and was uninhibited by convention. He fostered our love of learning, music, and nature through numerous canoe trips, cross-country skiing, sailing and the family cottage. Family was paramount for Vic. He was a devoted husband, dad, and opa.
A special thanks to the staff at Riverview.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, March 7 at First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Ave., at 11:00 a.m. Cremation has taken place. Interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery. Donations can be made in Vic’s memory to the Mennonite Central Committee.
