It is with sadness, that the family of Ruth Gudgeon announces her passing on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at age 89 years. She was predeceased by her two brothers Stirling and Richard; and two sisters Eileen and Olive.
A proud Maritimer, Ruth was born on August 16, 1926 in Moncton, New Brunswick which is where she met her loving husband George, otherwise known as Red to her. She followed him west where they settled in Winnipeg and established a career in serving others. She was energetic and creative and loved serving the Red Cross Youth for 25 years and The Stroke Recovery Association for another 20 years. During that time, Ruth initiated various programs at each of these organizations such as the World Neighbourhood Picnic where hundreds of children gathered to celebrate world peace and understanding, and the Diamond Dinners to raise funds to establish programs for stroke survivors and their families. Through her life she was a member of Rotary (West Winnipeg) Toastmistress Club, Winnipeg Central Business Association, The Parliamentarian Club of Winnipeg and Peter Pan (Children’s Hospital). She enjoyed visits with her sisters at home or in the Maritimes, time at the cottage, gardening and most of all times spent with her children and grandchildren.
