RICHARD WAYNE GLEN BALL (RICK)

Richard Wayne Glen Ball (Rick) left us for greener pastures on Nov. 5, 2025.  He was age 67 from St. Francois Xavier, MB.  Rick passed away peacefully at home with loving family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer.

Rick will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Louise, brother, Shane, sister, Treasure (Hal), daughter, Alayna (Donaldo), grandchildren, Evan, Royce, Talia, Danica, Mateo, niece, Brittany, nephew, Joshua (Stephanie). And deeply missed by The Assiniboia Downs community and many close friends. He was predeceased by father Glen.

Born May, 4th 1958 in St. Boniface and raised on the family ranch in East St. Paul. Rick followed in his dad’s footsteps for his love of horses.  Starting as a young boy he worked with his dad, Glen with breaking, galloping, breeding, assisting training, and owning thoroughbred race horses. He also enjoyed being a Jockey’s agent. Rick travelled to many race tracks in the US and Canada during his career with horses. His work with horses never really ended as he went on to manage various stables over the years off of #1 Hwy. He worked for Assiniboia Downs from 2017 to present as Track Assistant Superintendent and finally as Track Superintendent.  He showed unwavering dedication in his work there, making countless sacrifices throughout the years to ensure the track was well-maintained and safe for the horses during every racing season.

Other jobs he had included production worker at MacDon Industries, Sales & Service tech for various vacuum & water filtration companies in Sask. & Mb.  Which he excelled at and won many awards for his sales achievements.

Rick was known for his big heart, and devotion to his family, especially to his mother Louise whom he resided with. He cherished time spent with his daughter Alayna, along with his grandchildren. In his spare time throughout the years, you might catch him fishing, singing karaoke, watching his favourite sports teams, playing baseball and ice/sponge hockey or fantasy hockey pool.

A celebration of life will be held in spring of 2026 at Assiniboia downs, when the race season begins. Date to be announced.

The family wishes to thank Cancer & Palliative Care doctors & nurses for their compassion and care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba in Rick’s memory or charity of your choice.

Rick’s strength and humility during his battle with this disease was a real testament to his character and faith.

“Rest peacefully, Rick-until we meet again, in God’s timing”

2 Timothy 4:7, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”
