John Zackery Wilson
1939-2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of John Wilson at the age of 85 on Monday January 13, 2025, at Seven Oaks Hospital.

Beloved husband of Emily, devoted father to Shane (Michelle), Kevin (Sharyn) and Jason (Patricia) and cherished grandfather to Kyle (Hayley), Kayla (Donald), Brooke (Kris), Zackery (Adria), Kasandra, and Hailey, as well as great grandfather to Emily. He will be forever remembered by his brother Rick, many nieces and nephews, and numerous life-long friends.

He was predeceased by father Zack, mother Elsie, sister Katherine, brother Mike and daughter-in-law Eileen.

John was born on August 21, 1939, in Binscarth Manitoba. He grew up with love and passion for the outdoors, while having a great sense of family.

John and Emily were married in March of 1965 in Selkirk and were together for over 59 years. They raised a family in the Winnipeg area before moving to a property just outside of Tyndall, Manitoba in 1984, where they lived until 2019. The property in Tyndall became a gathering place for the family, with summers spent swimming, having bonfires, riding dirt bikes, and of course, numerous family dinners. Their grandchildren and family often visited, creating lasting memories. In 2019, John and Emily moved to Selkirk and later returned to Winnipeg.

He carried his passion and dedication into his career at the Manitoba Telephone System (MTS) that lasted for 35 years, retiring in 1994. However, retirement did not last long as he started his courier business in the Eastman area that lasted for several years. He also enjoyed many years working as a fishing guide at the Hideaway in Redditt, Ontario.

Throughout his life, John was always dedicated to his community, and this was shown through his many years as a member of the Rotary Club in Selkirk as well as numerous volunteer hours helping whatever cause was in need.

The family would like to thank the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital and Bergen Gardens Senior Living for their care and compassion these past few weeks.

He was a loyal friend to many and will be deeply missed by his extended family and friends.

A celebration of life will occur at a later date.
