To mourn John’s passing are his wife of 59 years, Marlene; children, Arnold, Ruth (Michael Nicholson), and Robbie; grandchildren, Melissa, and Carla. He also leaves his niece, Vaira, and nephew, Ziedonis, and their families in Latvia. Sponsored by the Lutheran church, John immigrated to Ontario in 1947 where he met his wife, Marlene. They settled in Kenora where he built his house. John was an avid and expert carpenter. In 1961 he took his family to Thompson, Manitoba where he worked at INCO until his retirement in 1985. The family then moved to Winnipeg where they became active members of Messiah Lutheran church. At the age of 91, John was an active man with a curious mind. He always had a book in his hands. He cherished his family and while he loved his adopted country, he also treasured his Latvian roots. On Tuesday, June 11, 2013 John’s Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in Messiah Lutheran Church, 400 Rouge Road with Pastor Carol Janke, presider. We would like to thank the medical staff of the Grace hospital for their compassionate care of our family.
