In Loving Memory of Joanne Patricia Brugger (nee Watkin)

Born in Castlegar, British Columbia – January 31, 1970

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Joanne Brugger, age 55, who peacefully joined her Mum Addie, Dad Buck and brother Aaron in heaven on January 11th, 2026.

Joanne was a devoted wife to her true love and beloved husband Michael, and a deeply loving mother to her biggest wish come true, her precious daughters, Alexandria and Madeline and puppy Winston. Joanne was a cherished sister to Jennifer, Linda and Laura, a treasured niece, aunt and great-aunt to many nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces who adored her. She was a wonderful daughter to Doug and Pat Brugger and Keith (Wilma) Watkin. Joanne was a dedicated and loving friend to an unbelievable amount of people, all of whom she loved with her entire heart.

For 25 years, Joanne dedicated her life to teaching; shaping and guiding young minds with patience, kindness, and unwavering care. Her classroom was more than a place of learning — it was a place of warmth, encouragement, inspiration and safety. Beyond teaching, Joanne expressed her creativity through sewing, card making, designing and scrapbooking, lovingly preserving memories and moments for those she held close to her heart and creating beauty, inclusion and so much laughter in every environment she touched.

Joanne was the glue that held her family together — a steady, loving presence, a source of strength, reliability, laughter, and comfort. A guiding light to everyone. She had a rare gift for making everyone feel seen, supported, and deeply loved. Her absence leaves an ache that words cannot fully express, and a space in our hearts that can never be filled.

Though she is no longer with us, Joanne’s love, kindness, creativity and beautiful spirit will live on in the lives she touched and the memories she created.

A memorial service will be held at Elmwood High School in Winnipeg on Saturday, January 24th at 2:00 PM.
