Howard Wiebe – August 27, 1946 – January 14, 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Howard Norman Allan Wiebe. Howard passed away suddenly at the age of 79 with family by his side at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Born in Winnipeg, he was predeceased by his parents, Andreas (Andy) and Lilian Wiebe (Beech), and brother Curtis. Howard leaves behind his beloved wife Dawn of 56 years, his sons Shawn, Jason and Jarrett (Monica), his daughter Shelley (Dwayne), grandchildren, Paige and Torin Sawyer and brother Bruce.

While growing up in Charleswood, Howard attended Charleswood Collegiate where he made many lifelong friends, all of whom were very dear to him. He developed a deep admiration for the written word and people who strived in life (on every level) and found interest in curling and music. He entered the workforce, dedicating 34 years at Manitoba Public Insurance.

He will be remembered for his sharp wit, sense of humor and deep respect for knowledge. He held high regard for good character, work ethic, honesty, and respect, seen in those with whom he surrounded himself with. Howard was a person of principle and integrity, a dedicated father and well-respected friend who was always willing to support friends or family in need. He had a strong personal drive and lived his life with purpose and intention.

Howard loved a good book, the morning newspaper, a game of crib, a Winnipeg Goldeyes game, a sweet treat, and his best pal Neo (dog). He valued his connections in life and a good conversation. The many lessons he passed on through his life will be carried forward by loved ones, and he will be remembered fondly.

We raise a glass of scotch in his memory.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Health Sciences Centre, and paramedics and firefighters who helped Howard in his final days. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Howard’s name to the Manitoba Firefighters Burn Fund or the Canadian Veteran Service Dog Unit.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
