GERRI UNWIN Peacefully, with family at her side, Gerri left us on Monday, November 19, 2012. Gerri leaves behind her husband Fred; children Eric, Mona and Jennifer (Reg Harrington); grandchildren Sarah, Paige and Arthur; and she will be missed by many friends and family. She was predeceased in early life by her Mother (Mona) and raised by her grandparents Sarah and George Cregeen. In 1936, Gerri was born and raised in Norwood, attending Queen Elizabeth School and Norwood Collegiate. She entered the work force at St. Boniface Hospital and in 1957, married her partner for life Fred Unwin. Gerri was an avid swimmer and life guard, winning competitions for these skills and enjoyed coaching synchronized swimming. She worked part-time until finding employment with the Manitoba Government at the Legislative building where she stayed until her retirement in 2001. A socially active woman, Gerri embraced music, theatre and politics attending and volunteering at the Winnipeg Folk Festival and the Manitoba Theatre Centre. She and Fred were able to travel yearly to warmer climes and created many happy memories in Cuba and Mexico. They also enjoyed visits with family in the U.K. and the U.S. A. A Celebration of Gerri’s Life will be held at Canad Inn, 826 Regent Avenue West, on Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
