George S. Clark
It is with deep regret that we announce the death of George S. Clark, on March 27th, 2026, at Seven Oaks Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 88 years. George is survived by his wife Laura (nee Tims), daughters Lori Simpson (Garry), Mary Puls (Ted), Jenny Baspaly (Michael), grandchildren Mitch, Jill, Brian, Jessica, Chelsea and Jaime, and great grandchildren Korah, Lily, Avery, Ari, James and Eva. George was predeceased by his parents Frank and Dora, and seven siblings.
Born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, George moved to Winnipeg with his wife Laura in 1966, where he was a professor of Geological Sciences at the University of Manitoba for 37 years before his retirement in 2003. He earned his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, NB, and his PhD at Columbia University in New York.
George was an avid fan of hockey, both playing and watching. He also served as a ringette referee and a baseball umpire in the Fort Garry area. George loved spending time at his farmhouse in Sprague, Manitoba, where he enjoyed hunting and conservation work. Many hunting seasons were spent there with friends Petr and Norman, son-in-law Garry, and George’s beloved Brittany Spaniel, Maverick.
We would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff of Seven Oaks Hospital for the excellent care they provided.
Cremation has taken place. As per George’s wishes, there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice, and/or have a stiff scotch in his memory.
