DOUG RIXEN
   On Tuesday, March 8, 2016 while ending a beautiful holiday in Cuba, in a place he called paradise, Doug passed away suddenly after a fall, at the age of 76 years.   Remaining to cherish Doug’s memory are his loving wife, Margaret; son Daniel; stepchildren, Glenn, Kelly, Sandy (Eriks) and Karen (Tom); grandchildren, Jamie (Robbie), Laura, Evan, Sam, Duncan and Trevor; brother David (Yvette); sister Jean (Mariano); nephew Craig (Nichole); as well as great-nephews, Austin and Ethan. He was predeceased by his first wife, Diane; father Robert; mother Violet and brother Robbie.    Doug was a man of few words, who never had an unkind word to say about anyone. His favourite place to go was ANAVETS # 283, where he was a member and where he made a lot of friends, while attending three meat draws a week, sitting at his special table. Doug will surely be missed by all who knew him. Although he was quiet, he loved being around people and was very sociable. Doug was a very avid reader of history and loved doing his family tree, going way back. He loved the outdoors, boating, fishing, hunting and skiing. He skied in the Alps and Rocky Mountains. He fondly talked about a trip he and young Dan made by boat on the Rideau Canal in 2000.    Doug joined the RCAF Reserves 1956 to 1958 and Air-Force in 1958 to 1985, NDT, and was based in many places in Canada and Germany. He was a Legion member for 46 active years. He worked for Bombardier in Quebec until retirement in 2000, after the death of Diane, in 1999. Doug moved to Winnipeg in 2001 and married Marg in 2002. Their friendship went back over 30 years. He was so proud of his son, Dan, who attended Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario for five years and is now a Captain in Yellowknife. Doug had a special relationship with his stepchildren and always liked to hear how the grandchildren were progressing. Doug and Marg did a lot of travelling to Cuba (nine times), Europe, cruises all over Canada and parts of the United States. He really enjoyed trips to the Casinos with the Over 55 Club and always looked forward to them.    A Celebration of Doug’s Life will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in ANAVETS # 283, 3584 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB.    In lieu of flowers, if desired, a donation in Doug’s memory may be made to The Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4G2 or The Salvation Army of Manitoba, 204 – 290 Vaughan Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3B 2N8.   Wojcik’s Funeral Chapels & Crematorium, Winnipeg, 2157 Portage Avenue, 204.897.4665 www.wojciksfuneralchapel.com
