DORIS EVELYN BUFFIE
APRIL 19, 1935 – APRIL 15, 2022

Our sister Doris passed away peacefully on Good Friday, April 15, 2022 at Lions Manor in Winnipeg.

She is survived by her siblings: Jerry (Marlene) Aileen (Ed), nephews; Kevin (Leanne), Jason (Anna), Jonathan, Chris (Sabrina), Ryan (Jennifer); grandnieces and nephews: Ethan (Paula), Joshua, Alexa, Sarah, Amelia, Juliet, Elena, Desmond, and Gabriella.

She was predeceased by her parents, John and Magdalena Buffie and brother Wilfred.

Doris was born on a Good Friday in the family home in Waldersee, Manitoba, where she grew up along with her siblings. She left the farm in 1952 to work at a law firm, Campbell and Haig, in Winnipeg. This proved to be a highly stressful secretarial job, requiring meticulous typing on a standard typewriter; no auto-correct; any error required retyping the entire document.
Eventually Doris took a secretarial job at the Adult Education Centre, where she made lasting friendships.

Doris loved her house, tending the flowers on her yard, as well as ridding her neighbourhood of weeds. At the age of 50 years, she took lessons and acquired her driver’s license, then purchased her first car. She enjoyed giving friends a ride to church and various activities after years of having to take rides with others. She loved her church and actively participated on the altar guild and serving food at church functions.

After retiring she also enjoyed volunteering at Canadian Lutheran World Relief on a regular schedule.
She loved her nephews and enjoyed babysitting occasionally as they grew up. Her grandnieces and nephews were very special to her, and we all appreciated her generosity of spirit and sense of humour.

In July 2016 Doris suffered a stroke which precipitated a move to Sturgeon Creek Assisted Living facility, and unfortunately the end of her independence. She was no longer able to drive her car but adjusted to walking with a walker, until she suffered a devastating stroke in 2021. She was moved to the Lions Manor, where she was given excellent care until her passing on another Good Friday.

The family extends thanks to staff at Sturgeon Creek II Assisted Living facility and especially caregivers at Lions Manor for their loving care of Doris.

Many thanks to Pastor Courtney Reedman Parker for her spiritual support.

The funeral service will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church in Winnipeg at 1:00 pm on May 20th, burial in Waldersee on May 21, 2022.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church or Canadian Lutheran World Relief.
