DONALD CHARLES THOMPSON
Peacefully, on Friday, December 30, 2016, Don Thompson passed away at Kildonan Place Personal Care Centre.   He will be greatly missed by Pat, his beloved wife of 40 years; son Michael (Colette) Thompson of Ottawa; daughter Kathy (Dave) Crozier of The Pas and four grandchildren, Alison, Audra, Cody and Michelle.    On September 14, 1933 Don was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to parents Kay (Wise) and Fred Thompson. His career started with RCAF as an airplane electrician. He loved everything to do with aircraft. Don worked for Environment Canada as a meteorologist until his retirement in 1994. His radio weather broadcasts from The Pas Airport were thoroughly enjoyed as he had a fabulous voice and presentation on the air. Don was an avid reader and was literally a walking encyclopedia of information. He had a very extensive vocabulary, he loved words, their origins and meanings. He was an amateur astronomer and enjoyed star gazing with his own telescope. He was greatly interested in NASA and the space program.    Don and Pat moved to Winnipeg in 2000 and enjoyed spending retirement in their love nest in West Kildonan, golfing, outings throughout the province, going to movies and spending part of the winters in Florida.    In keeping with Don’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a family gathering will be held at a later date.  Wojcik’s Funeral Chapels & Crematorium, Winnipeg, 1020 Main Street, 204.586.8668 www.wojciksfuneralchapel.com
