CHARLES ERNEST LAING

JANUARY 2027 – DECEMBER 2023

Peacefully and surrounded by his children, Ernie passed away on December 20. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years Trudy. He will lovingly be remembered and sadly missed by his children Keith, Tim (Karen), Mari-Lee (Peter), Brian, his grandchildren Krystyn, Kaylee (Neil), Megan, Mandie (Barry), Ryan (Milah), Michelle, Amy, Jana, Jennifer (Mehdi), Scott (Jocelyn), Greg, Eric, Janelle (Ian), and his great grandchildren Bradley, Wilder, Isla, Sonny, and Audrey. Also left to mourn him are his brother-in-law Eddie Pilek, his sisters-in-law Janette Pilek, Veronica Taylor (Bryce), Leona Lund (Dave) and his many nieces, nephews, and well-loved friends. Ernie is predeceased by his brothers Llyod (Dorothy), John (Mable), Gord (Vi), his sisters Mildred Clark (Bill), Edith, Dorothy Wagner (Doug) and his brother-in-law Stanley Pilek and his sister-in-law Marie Pilek.

Ernie was raised in Puslinch, Ontario on his family farm. He served in the RCAF for twenty years living in Quebec, Centralia, Winnipeg, France, and Nova Scotia. After retirement, the family moved back to Winnipeg, where Ernie was employed with Bristol Aerospace and Standard Aero.  Ernie enjoyed life to the fullest. He travelled all over the world, camped in many different places, and was an avid curler and valued volunteer. He loved to spend time with his family and was always up to hosting family gatherings in Charleswood. He was a very supportive grandfather, uncle, and great-uncle, and in his later years was thrilled that he could attend many weddings.

A celebration of Ernie’s life will take place on January 12, 2024, at Wojcik’s Funeral Chapel, 2157 Portage Avenue at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Breast Cancer Society.
