BARBARA TARIO

(Nee Lipp)

Barbara Tario held many beloved titles, mother, Nan, aunty, wife and friend during her incredible 98 years of life. She passed away peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, August 4, 2024 following a stroke. Barbara lived a life marked by grace, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family. Born in Dilke, Saskatchewan to Albina and Peter Lipp, Barbara was their fourth daughter and one of their eleven children.

Barb met and fell in love with Clare (Terry) and after he served in WW2, they were married June 2, 1945 and spent 62 years together. Their only child Brenda was born in May of 1954.

Sewing and fiber arts were Barbara’s gift and passion thru life, sewing for Winnipeg Tent and Awning as her mainstay, and in her own time spending countless hours creating clothing, blankets, gifts and functional items. She was thoughtful, practical and generous with her work; leaving us with many items to hold and treasure and remember her by.

Barb and Terry were fortunate to see, visit and live in some beautiful parts of the world. Early in their lives they spent time at their family cabin in Point Du Bois, time at their trailer in Netley Creek and summering and living for many years out at Gull Lake. Gull Lake held a special part of their hearts, it was there where they spent countless hours hosting, playing cards, building friendships & community and spending time outside. They were fortunate to travel, most notably to Hawai’i, a bucket list trip, as well as to Florida and Texas. Barb kept detailed travel logs of all the road trips they would take as well touring through Canada and the United States. After retirement they spent many years snow-birding down to the southernmost tip of Texas where they made lasting friendships and many memories. They lived briefly in the interior of British Columbia in Penticton before spending their remaining years back in Winnipeg.

She was known for her warm heart, generous spirit, and the quiet courage with which she faced life’s challenges. Her legacy is one of doting love and kindness, leaving an indelible mark on her grandchildren, nieces and great-grandchildren. Barbara was predeceased by her parents Albina and Peter Lipp, sisters Mary Schnell, Teresa Boiven, Margaret Maurisen, Verna Panchuk, Lillian Owens, Bernice Knockaert, and brothers Romeo Lipp and Frank Lipp. She was also predeceased by her husband of 62 years Clare (Terry) and daughter Brenda. She is survived by her two sisters Evelyn Kennedy and Joan Typa (Eugene) and her granddaughters Pamela (Jeff) Kirkpatrick and Chrissie (Jonny) Cooke and great grandchildren Claire, Billy, Cameron and Adrienne, and son-in-law Ken Cooke. She also leaves her beloved nieces Jo-Anne and Lori (and families) who played an important part in her life. Her family will remember her for her gentle presence, her thoughtful advice, and her unending support, care and concern.

A memorial service to celebrate Barbara’s life will be held on Sunday August 25th, 2024 at 2pm at Wojcik’s Funeral Home, 1020 Main Street, Winnipeg. Internment at Chapel Lawn will take place at a future date.
