BARBARA JOYCE BUXTON

(NEE WOOLER)

On Tuesday January 21, 2020, at The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg, our Mum (Nana) passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus, at the age of 97.

She was predeceased by her parents George and Emily Wooler, her beloved husband of 62 years, William Edward Buxton, son William David Buxton, brother George Wooler, and grandson William Frederick Buxton.

Barb is survived by her sister Eunice Snow and family of Tollesbury Essex England, son Rodney George Buxton (Katie) Winnipeg, daughter Sylvia Ann Buxton (Chris) Princeton BC, daughter in law Nancy Buxton from Fredericton NB, grandchildren, Mark (Kim), David (Heidi), Sherilyn (Joe), Sandra Lee, Darryl (Regan), Kim (Sean), great grandchildren Stephanie (Phillip), Kaela, D’Artagnan, Adam, Luke, Christopher (Julie), Matthew, Sonya, Augustus, Maxwell, Zoe and Cole, and great great grandchild Beckham.

Born in 1922 in England, Barb grew up and attended school in Essex County along with her older brother George and younger sister Eunice. She often spoke fondly of her years spent in Tollesbury and how much she enjoyed the swimming pool filled with fresh tide water directly from the ocean. She was an accomplished swimmer and diver and was proud of the trophies that she won for her diving.

Barb met the love of her life Bill, at a dance, when Bill was stationed in England during the Second World War. They both loved to dance, and they hit it off immediately, fell in love, married, and the rest is history. Bill Jr. was born in 1942 in England and a young bride and mother migrated to Canada by ship along with hundreds of other young “War Brides”. Bill followed when the war ended and they settled in British Columbia, had two more children, Rod and Sylvia, and later moved to New Brunswick for a few years and then back to beautiful BC. They moved to Winnipeg MB in 1999.  Barb moved into Lindenwood Manor Assisted living when Bill became ill, and thrived there for 17 years, she loved being there and took part in the walking programs, assisted her good friend Alice the resident hairdresser with washing and drying the towels from the salon and she especially enjoyed joining her friends at “their” table for lunch and super every day. Barb was voracious in filling out crossword puzzles and wordsearch books. She was an avid sports fan and loyal to the Winnipeg Jets, when the Canucks were playing the jets she would say ”I can’t lose tonight”, The Bombers, (Except when The BC Lions were playing against them) The Goldeyes and her favourite sport to follow was Major League Baseball and the Toronto Blue Jays.

She recently required more care and lived the last eight months at The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg. Barb loved her family and friends, was especially fond of puppies and bunny rabbits and faithfully supported the Winnipeg Humane Society for many years. She was a wonderful Mum, Nana, and friend, we were blessed to have her in our lives, she will be greatly missed. Our thanks to both Lindenwood Manor for their love and support over those many years and to The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg for making her final year as comfortable as possible.

Cremation has taken place, and a family gathering, and celebration of life will take place at a later date.
