It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Alice Robertson (nee Brown) on Monday, September 25, 2017 at West Park Manor Personal Care Home, at the age of 84 years. Left to mourn Alice’s memory are her beloved daughters Karen Sutton (Ian) and Cheryl Black (Harry); grandchildren, Michael Arbez (Tara), Jayda Sutton (Christopher Hallford), Andrew Sutton (Trista Lemieux), Ryan Black (Allison), Alicia Sawatsky (Brian) and Kayla Klippenstein; great-grandchildren, Caileigh, Abbe, Bella and Quinnlyn Arbez, Alyssa Hallford, Jackson and Calen Sawatzky and Ella Black as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Alice grew up in Glasgow, Scotland. At the age of 17 years she left Scotland and immigrated to Canada arriving on her 18th birthday. Throughout her life, Alice had a variety of careers including, working in dietary and as a nurse’s aide at Deer Lodge Hospital. As well, she was a manager of American Health Studios. She worked in sales at Holt Renfrew, Reimer Optical and Merle Norman where she obtained certification in cosmetology enabling her to service an expanding clientele at the Magic Room. After several years in business, Alice decided to take on a new challenge, working as a librarian at the University of Winnipeg while doing courses in Social Work. Subsequently, she spent the next 25 years at the Winnipeg Commodity Exchange. She retired in 1995. During her retirement, Alice kept busy volunteering at Winnipeg Children’s and Grace Hospitals. Alice’s greatest joys were her family as well as a lifelong love of music and dancing. Throughout her life, she took time to help others to the best of her ability. In compliance with Alice’s wishes, no formal Funeral Service will be held. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
