CLAIRE MARIE ANNE RITA NAULT
(NEE LEGAL)

It is with great sadness that the family of Claire Marie Anne Rita Nault (née Legal), beloved Mother, Mémère, grand-Mémère, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin, friend; announce her peaceful passing at Actionmarguerite St. Boniface on June 10, 2026, at the age of 94 years.

Mom was born on March 25, 1932, in Ste. Geneviève, Manitoba, the fifth of fifteen children. She grew up on a farm where she had to complete her chores before walking to school. This instilled in her a strong work ethic which she kept for the remainder of her life. Mom met the love of her life, Aurèle, at the young age of 17 during a social where Dad and his brothers were the musicians. They were married shortly after this first encounter and this loving union lasted for 70 years until Dad passed. They built their first home on the Nault farm in Richer, Manitoba. The first six children were born there and the seventh was born in Pine Falls where the family relocated for work. Mom spent countless hours sewing and ironing clothes for her children. When the children were older Mom took the odd job as a cook at several local restaurants, one of where she worked with three of her daughters, and later as a chambermaid. Mom loved shopping, snowmobiling, playing cards, puzzles, knitting, reading, watching her soaps and later in life playing games on her iPad. She enjoyed traveling with her siblings and with her children. She and Dad spent several winters in Port Alberni. Her favourite trip was when she and all her daughters got together in Osoyoos. She also loved her annual weekend getaway with her sisters. Her favourite holiday was Christmas and she’d spend days baking and cooking the feast for the Christmas réveillon. Her greatest love of life was family and she loved to laugh with us. One of her favourite pastimes was spending time at her second home camping with Dad in Stonewall. After Dad passed her daughters would take turns spending weeks with her at the camper. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her immense joy and she often shared funny stories and silly things that they had said. Once she entered the nursing home, she enjoyed playing bingo and doing crafts. She loved her visits with her extended family and enjoyed going out for lunch or having lunch brought in as a special treat.

Mom is lovingly remembered by her children Denise Catellier, Maurice, Laurette (Orland) Bordal, Jeannine (Bill) Lavallee, Suzanne (Bill) Rodger, Claude (Shelley), Nicole (Geoff) Bell. She will also be fondly remembered by 21 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren; her siblings Marie-Rose, Lucienne (Frank), Jean, and Gilberte (Lee); in-laws Gladys, Philip and Louise; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Mom was predeceased by her husband Aurèle in 2020; her parents Henri and Marie-Anne; brothers George, Louis, Francois, Michel, Claude, Paul, and Gerard; sisters Germaine, Yvonne and Celine and numerous in-laws.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 27 at 10:00 a.m., Christ the King Catholic Church, 315 Second Street East, Stonewall, MB. Interment to follow at 1:00 p.m., L’Enfant Jesus Cemetery, Richer MB. A reception will be held after interment at the Richer Community Hall.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Actionmarguerite St. Boniface for the care and attention provided to our dear Mother.

PETRONELLA (NELLY) CORNELIA WILHELMINA SPAPENS

With gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of our mom and Oma. Mom was reunited with dad on June 9, 2026, a wonderful gift to dad on his birthday.

Mom lived a long and full life in her 97 years. She watched her grandchildren all grow into adulthood. We feel blessed that Mom had the ability to travel and have a full and active life. Mom had a gift for numbers and anyone who ever played cards with her very quickly realized that somehow, she managed to remember what cards were played which made her a formidable opponent.

Mom leaves behind daughters Sheila (Gerald) and Theresa (Glenn) and grandchildren Garrett (Miranda), Dayton, Landon, Emily (Brady), Tyler (Ethan) and Avery (Hunter) as well as her "Baby" brother, Wil, in the Netherlands.

No words can express our gratitude for the loving care she received from the staff at River East Personal Care Home and the wonderful friends she made there (Lorraine, John, Wayne and Terry). She had a fulfilling and exceptional quality of life there.

As per our mom’s wishes, a celebration of her life will be held with the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Salvation Army to assist those in need.

As a final message of her love, she left behind this poem addressed to her daughters and their children:

When I am gone, release me – let me go

I have so many things to see and do.

You must not tie yourself to me with tears

Be happy that we had so many years.

I gave you love, you can only guess,

how much you gave me in happiness.

I thank you for the love each have shown,

but now it is time I travelled alone.

So grieve awhile for me if grieve you must,

then let your grief be comforted by trust

It is only for a while that we must part

so bless those memories within your heart.

I will not be far away, for life goes on.

so if you need me, call and I will come.

Though you cannot see or touch me, I will be near

And if you listen with your heart, you will hear

All of my love around you, soft and clear.

Then when you must come this way alone,

I will greet you with a smile and “Welcome Home”

With all my love Mom and Oma

Clayton Liebrecht

?Surrounded by his family, Clayton Liebrecht passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital on June 8, 2026, at the age of 68, after a silent and courageous fight with pulmonary fibrosis.

?He is lovingly remembered by his spouse, Donna Bujan; his stepchildren, Trevor McCloy (Heather) and Travis Bujan (Amy); his sister, Gerry Sheflo (Glen); and numerous extended family members and friends. Gerry was far more than just a sister to Clayton. During a childhood that wasn't always easy, she stepped up to be a true mother figure to him. She provided the unconditional love, stability, and guidance he needed, playing a vital role in shaping him into the incredible, big-hearted man he became.

?Clayton was truly someone you could never forget; his flair for life was simply great. Professionally, he spent years on the open road as a long-haul trucker, and in the past, he also worked doing irrigation for golf courses. He had a deep, unwavering loyalty to GMC vehicles, proudly owning two GMC Sierra Stepsides over the years. When he eventually ended up with a Chevy Silverado, he absolutely hated it—a fact made all the more hilarious considering it is essentially the exact same truck as his beloved Sierra.

?His absolute favourite place to be was his sanctuary, affectionately known as the "Garage Mahal." Clayton could often be found out there for days at a time, happily immersed in various projects and working his way through bottles of rum. He was the ultimate garage guy—whether you needed a tool for an oil change, replacing your brakes, a home renovation, or a woodworking project, Clayton had it in the Garage Mahal, and he was always ready to lend a hand.

?Many of those garage projects stemmed from a love for woodwork that he shared with Donna. Together, they created countless knick-knacks that adorned their yard—pieces that Donna was always playfully trying to give away to anyone who stopped by. Their shared creativity and hard work even earned them the title of "best-decorated yard" in the neighbourhood one year.

?He was the life of the party, famous for his quick wit, the kind of brilliantly stupid jokes that left you shaking your head, and his legendary solo air-piano performances. He loved dancing to his favourite song, Love Shack by The B-52s, much to Donna's dismay. Clayton and Donna also loved to travel together, with Las Vegas serving as their favourite vacation spot to get away and enjoy life.

?Above all, Clayton was a man who loved unconditionally. When he met Donna, he showed her what real love truly meant, and she loved him with all her heart in return. He was her everything, the piece that completed her, and they truly did everything together. Navigating life without her best friend will be an incredibly tough journey, but the love they shared was a once-in-a-lifetime bond.

?He stepped into the role of a father figure without a second of hesitation, embracing two crazy North End boys and loving them as his own. His devotion to his family was unwavering; when Donna suffered a severe concussion, Clayton was her constant support, steadfastly driving her to every single appointment for years.

?Clayton changed his family for the better. He leaves behind a legacy of immense generosity, unconditional love, and perfectly timed air-piano solos. He will be deeply missed. Bye—not forever, just for now.

?A Celebration of Life to share memories and raise a Rum and Pepsi press (with water, never straight Pepsi) to a great man will be held on Monday, June 15, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at the 4 Crowns, 1030 McPhillips Street.

August 17,1935 – June 4, 2026

Joyce Alexander passed away peacefully in her 90th year. Her children would like to thank the wonderful Home Care staff and the ‘chef extraordinaire’ that made Mom’s years at Charleswood’s Assiniboine Links so enjoyable. A big thank you also to the staff on Unit 2 of the Maples Care Centre that took such amazing care of Mom in her declining years.

Joyce will be missed by her children, Donna Alexander Zwicker (Terry) of Calgary, Arden Alexander (Ron Pidskalny) of Edmonton, son Bill Alexander (Elaine) of Stonewall, Man, granddaughter Jennifer Zwicker (Ethan MacDonald) of Calgary and grandson John Zwicker (Julie) of Edmonton, her great-grandchildren William Alexander MacDonald, Eric MacDonald, Amelia Zwicker and Benjamin Zwicker, her sister-in law Marion Laurie of Sooke, B.C, her best friend Bev Beckwith, her nieces, nephews and their families and her Charleswood community of friends.

Joyce was predeceased by our Dad Bill Alexander, her parents Isabella Laurie (nee Stephen) & Percy Dobson Laurie, and siblings James Laurie, Violet Laurie Stropes, Ruth Laurie Dugard Mercer, Raymond Laurie Dugard, Doreen Laurie Dew, Ethel Laurie Goddard and Bill Laurie as well as Ron and Marg Alexander.
Joyce grew up in Point du Bois and then Beausejour, moving into Winnipeg to attend United College (U of Wpg) and then business school. She met Bill on a blind date; they soon married and lived briefly in Weston before moving to Charleswood with baby Donna in tow in 1959. Mom had been a Past President of the Charleswood Garden Club, a member of the Charleswood United Church, and a board member for her friend the former MP Steven Fletcher. Mom had been delighted to be honoured by the Charleswood Historical Society upon her 50th year in the community.

Condolences may be forwarded through the funeral home. In lieu of flowers perhaps consider a donation to the Charleswood Garden Club, Charleswood Historical Society or Ducks Unlimited. Honouring her request, there will be no service.

SALLY ANN ROSE (NÉE THOMPSON)
SEPTEMBER 14, 1954 – MAY 30, 2026

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sally Ann Rose on May 30, 2026, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. After a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer, Sally passed away peacefully at the age of 71, surrounded by her loving family.

Sally was predeceased by her husband, Bob Rose, in 2014. She is lovingly remembered by her partner, Doug Koval; daughter, Margarette Rose; son, Robert Rose (Christy); grandchildren, Justin, Addison (Tyson), and Matthew; sisters, Lois (Brian), Donna and Brenda (Bob); and nieces Jessica, Elaina, Lauren, and Mandy.

Sally was an avid dart player and proudly spoke of her time as a nationally ranked competitor. She also worked alongside a dedicated group of fellow players to help establish the Northern Ontario Darts Association.

During her retirement, Sally embraced every opportunity to travel. She enjoyed the ‘sister trips’, reconnecting and making lasting memories together. She also shared many tropical vacations with Doug and made frequent visits to see family in the Dominican Republic.

As a longtime season ticket holder for the Blue Bombers, Sally loved bringing friends and family along to cheer on her favorite team. Never one to sit idle, she also dedicated her time to serving on her housing co-operative board, always striving to make her community a better place for everyone.

The family extends a special thank you to Doug for the love, support, and care he provided during Sally's final months.

In keeping with Sally's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sally's memory to support CancerCare Manitoba, whose exceptional care and treatments extended Sally's life far beyond anyone's expectations.

STEVEN RICHARD SCHMIDT

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our eldest son, Steven, a star that fell too soon. Brain cancer claimed him at 62, following his wife, Monica (Nee Massey), who was also taken early by cancer ten years earlier.

Steve is survived by his parents Greg and Juliette “Julie” Schmidt, son Adam (Emmalene), daughter Erika (Grant), brothers Michael, Philip (Christine), and David (Lynda); partner Kaye Kameron and a large extended family.

Steve was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He graduated as the Gold Medalist in Computer Science from the University of Manitoba in 1986 and then went on to a brilliant career with IBM in Toronto and then Microsoft in Washington State.

Steve loved to ski and tackled some of the most difficult slopes through helicopter and caterpillar skiing. He also served children as a respected ski instructor.

Steve left Washington State four years ago, moving to Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico where he generously supported university students and schoolchildren with gifts of computers, bicycles, and backpacks and by teaching English.

Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 10th at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, 2400 Portage Avenue at 1:30pm. Steven’s final resting place is at Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue.

For friends unable to attend, the funeral will be live streamed on the Church’s YouTube channel: https://youtube.com/@st.paultheapostlewinnipeg3109

STEPHANIE NORA FINGEROTE (NEE LUBA)
20 OCTOBER, 1950 – 24 MAY, 2026

It is with much sadness to announce that, following a devastating stroke, Stephanie passed away Sunday, May 24, 2026 at the Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 54 years, Elliot, son Joseph and grandson Max, along with numerous family and friends. Predeceased by her were her parents Mary and Steve, brother Adolph and nephew Randy.

Stephanie was born in Angusville, Manitoba. She grew up surrounded by large and small animals. Throughout her life she loved and cared for wild and domestic creatures she encountered. She had a special way with her garden flowers. From high school Stephanie entered the University of Manitoba, School of Pharmacy, graduating BSc (Pharmacy), 1973. Her career saw service in long term and acute care settings and community retail settings. She was the best pharmacist she could be. That was important to her.

Throughout her life, Stephanie was singly focused on trying to encourage son Joseph to excel. She took great interest in supporting grandson Max as he found his way in a career of his choice.

Stephanie was an excellent cook and baker; preparing ethnic based meals for husband Elliot. Holidays were important. Remembering birthdays, anniversaries and special days for all family and friends was her special skill. Husband Elliot was forever starting projects that saw rare completion. Stephanie was forever patient and we suspect hopeful of seeing an end to at least one.
Stephanie had a special place. It was the ‘cottage’ at the lake. She looked forward to trips down Storm Bay Road that ended at the driveway to our lake house. The bright stars at night caused her to wonder. Her constant reminder was “did you put seeds in the bird feeder?”. During her illness it was the pictures of ‘our place’ that brought her comfort and peace. The build was a project done of love. It will stand as a symbol to her joy. The contributions of our lake friends and neighbours wishing her recovery brought bright spots to her days.

We are grateful for the care provided for Stephanie by Winnipeg Fire Paramedics, emergency room staff and staff of the stroke units at Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg. Thank you.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Wildlife Federation, 350 Michael Cowpland Dr., Kanata ON K2M 2W1 or the charity of your choice.

A graveside service will be held for the family, with Reverend Cornel Rempel officiating.

Family and friends are invited to gather casually at 11:30 AM on Saturday, June 6th at Wojick’s Funeral Chapel, 2157 Portage Ave.

Those we love don’t go away
They walk beside us every day
Unseen, unheard, but always near
So loved, so missed, and so very dear
Every day!

Say her name!
May her memory be a blessing!

OF
JAMES (JIM) MELCHIOR CRESS
DECEMBER 28, 1941 - MAY 22, 2026

Jim passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026, at the age of 84. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Annette; his sons, Carl (Michelle) and Jason; and his granddaughters, Kadence and Charlie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melchior and Erie, and his daughter, Karen May Cress.

Jim was a proud veteran, who served in the Army from 1958 to 1981, followed by a twenty-year career as a network IT professional until 2003.

In retirement, he loved traveling as a winter snowbird from 2008 to 2017, dedicating much of his time to volunteering at the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge in Texas. He was a man of many passions who enjoyed gliding, camping, woodworking, playing guitar, and listening to bluegrass music. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family and friends.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Grace Hospice for their exceptional care and support. At his request, no funeral service will be held. An intimate celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace Hospice.
